New Classes

Pilates Tone Up

Pilates Tone Up is a form of strength and flexibility training that can be done by anyone at any level of fitness. Pilates exercises strengthens and lengthens muscles without bulk; improves posture and alignment, and increases flexibility, circulation and balance.

To quote Joseph Pilates, “You will feel better in 10 sessions, look better in 20 sessions and have a completely new body in 30 session.”

Ashtanga Yoga

Ashtanga Yoga is a system of Yoga popularised by Sri K. Pattabhi Jois. The name Ashtanga Yoga means “eight limbs” in Sanskrit and is a reference to the eight-part method of practice in the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali. In Patanjali’s method, the practice of postures is just one part of a comprehensive discipline of social, physical, and mental training.

Pattabhi Jois taught a dynamic method of sequenced postures linked with breath and concentration techniques that aim to give practical experience of the 8-limbed method.

This 1-hour class will focus on the Primary Series, which is designed to detoxify and align the body as well as increase muscular strength, flexibility and concentration.

Hot Stretch

Tradition meets modernity in this Hot Stretch class.

We take students through traditional yoga postures designed to help yogis gain energy, strength and range of motion, with emphasis on poses to stretch the body. All these are done in a heated room (a comfortable 36°C), which helps warm-up the muscles and maximise the detoxifying effects of the postures. We encourage our students to listen to their bodies, be aware of their alignment and breathing as they deepen their practice. Our creative sequences are there to inspire you physically, energetically and mentally.

Uplifting Hatha Flow

Using Hatha yoga fundamentals – breath, mindfulness, and postures – this class combines the strength of held postures and the serenity of breath-directed movement. Every class will give a different flowing sequence, with intuitive transitions between the poses, helping you find that balance between effort and relaxation. Attention is given to individual postures, alignment, and mindfulness, to create an invigorating blend that builds both strength in the body as well as calmness and stillness in the mind.

Suitable for all levels, and perfect if you are looking for something to uplift your mood!

Speciality Classes

Rope Yoga

A hot-favourite with our students! This class (traditionally called “Kurunta”) uses specialized-ropes for practising common yoga postures – either on the mat, or on the wall! Kurunta challenges the students’ perception of yoga, activating and engaging different muscles, and ultimately allowing students to push through their limits safely. Kurunta is a great choice for newbies looking for a safe workout and for seasoned yogis looking to improve performance.

Neck Shoulder Back Relief

Yoga techniques to help our students – especially corporate warriors – relieve tension and aches in their necks, upper and lower backs, and shoulders. Suitable for yogis of all levels, this class will help you combat pain due to tight muscles, build strength in your upper bodies, and increases mobility.

Mindful Chair Flow

Improper alignment in exercises, even in yoga, can lead to injuries. We want yogis to avoid that and to learn to go into yoga poses safely through proper alignment using our specially-built chairs. We encourage yogis of all levels to attend Chair Yoga classes to ensure that they progress in their yoga journey safely.

Functional Stretch

This is a class that is unique to Samasthah; formerly known as “Samasthah Stretch”. The yoga sequences, designed by our specially-certified teacher, are a combination of 2 things: yoga postures in their basic elements and bodywork techniques to help improve muscle control and stability of the joints. In this way, students address their physical limitations and overcome any old or recurring injuries. This class is great for yogis and athletes of all levels - helping them to increase strength, performance and mobility. One of our students enthused: “...I found as a regular spinning go-er, the stretch class was so beneficial for me and it's helped to improve my spinning performance!”.

Zoo Yoga

Yoga inspired by the strong and beautiful movement of various animals to help new and seasoned yogis build strength, stamina and flexibility. This is a fun-filled, high-activity class that incorporates traditional yoga movements for balance and stability with primal movements to boost locomotor skills such as walk, jump, skip, hop, gallop, etc.

A great class to help yogis re-discover movement and push through their limits to boost performance. Yes, it’s time to be a child again with Zoo Yoga!

Regular Favourites

Core Sculpt Yoga

Yes, students will discover muscles in their core that they never knew existed! Focusing on strengthening the deep internal muscles of the abdomen and back will help yogis to develop body stability, achieve wider range of motion, and even relieve backaches. The class also has traditional pranayama (breathing) practices which helps improve circulation, an important element in stimulating proper digestive function.

Hatha

Focused on traditional yoga postures and breathing techniques, this class is designed to help yogis gain strength, range of motion and energy. We encourage our students to listen to their bodies, be aware of their alignment and breathing as they deepen their practice.  At Samasthah, this class used to be known as “Green Hatha” as a nod to the colour green, known to be the colour of balance – symbolising self-respect and well-being.

Vinyasa

A vigorous flow style of yoga (vinyasa) that synchronizes breath with movement, this class will help yogis build strength and endurance, as well as increasing flexibility. The sequence in each class is always different and unusual – engaging yogis with a variety of dynamic vinyasas. Formerly known as “Purple Vinyasa” as purple is the symbol of power and modernity, this class is for the performance-driven yogi looking for a challenging class.

Yin Yoga

In Chinese culture, there are two seemingly opposing forces – Yin and Yang – that make a whole. Yin, stable and passive in comparison with Yang, focuses on stretching connective tissues such as tendons, fascia and ligaments. Connective tissues in our bodies respond better to slow, steady load such as the correct pose for a long period. The body’s response to such a technique is strength and mobility (in real life speak, less creaky joints!). We encourage all our yogis to add Yin Yoga to their practice. It's tougher than you think!

Seasonal Special

Advanced Vinyasa

Discover and refine your strong core alignment through this flowing class featuring advanced yoga postures. You will be guided to explore and test your own perceived limits, both physically & mentally. This is a fun, dynamic & challenging class; usually customized for the students' preference - each session will teach you something new! Great for seasoned yogis and students of other disciplines like Pilates, dance or martial arts.

Prenatal Yoga

Tailored for pregnant mums-to-be, our Prenatal Yoga classes take a multi-faceted approach with breathing (breath), meditation (mind) and stretching (body). We take yogis through a sequence of yoga poses that will enable them to stretch and strengthen safely. These, along with the breathing and mental centering techniques will help mums-to-be better manage the stresses on their bodies, stay calm and relax, and prepare for labour.

Kundalini (90mins)

Known as “the yoga of awareness”, Kundalini is an uplifting blend of practices that releases the energy located at the base of your spine. These practices are precisely designed with a combination of breathing, movement, stretching, postures, mudras (hand gestures), eye focus, the use of mantras (sacred sounds and rhythm), and relaxation techniques. The goal is to build physical vitality and increase the flow of energy and consciousness that exists within us. There are practices (“kriyas”) that support the liver, balance the glandular system, strengthen the nervous system, expand lung capacity, stimulate the pituitary, increase the spine’s flexibility, increase your radiance, and many more. Kundalini Yoga is for everyone.
